South China Sea dispute is a typical example of a regional conflict around the world and it is located in one of the most geopolitically and economically important parts of the region. 80 percent of oil imports from China, Japan, South Korea and the Middle East passes through the South China Sea. Most of the exported and imported goods from the South Asia, Africa and Europe are transported and shipped through this disputed sea. If the dispute leads to even more serious conflict, it would definitely impose a negative impact on the global economy. The paper defines all of the disputed areas in the South China Sea and discusses about its historical reasons in chronological frame followed by an analysis on the current situation. Bilateral policies and political views of the two governments on the South China Sea issues are discussed critically with further analysis on the potential impact of the conflict on the bilateral diplomatic relations. Currently there exists many interests of the two governments that conflict with each other. However it is not possible to have an intention to politically dominate in the region. The most effective measure to solve the conflict would be a bilateral discussion which would define a future of the bilateral relations between the two nations.en_US
