Abstract

From a theoretical and experiential perspective, small states tend to declare neutral status when faced with direct and indirect threat. The main objective of this strategy is, through neutrality, to ensure the sovereignty of their country and to get guarantees of safety from neighboring countries and the international community. This research looks at the history of Mongolian foreign policy since independence. Moreover, it aims to clarify the sudden decision to adapt a strategy of permanent neutrality and why the country reversed its decision.
